Their go-to diet is no longer working for them and is actually causing them to gain weight!

Weight gain in perimenopause is common and can be down to many different reasons but food often plays a big part.

Here are 3 common mistakes I see many women making:

1. NOT EATING ENOUGH PROTEIN - Protein is the building block for all our cells and is needed for 00’s of functions in the body. Protein keeps you full, promotes fat loss and helps build muscle, which is essential in perimenopause.

2. EATING TOO MANY PROCESSED CARBOHYDRATES
- By that I mean the starchy kind like bread, pasta and baked goods. In perimenopause our bodies and hormones are changing and we can’t handle carbs like we used to. Many women overestimate the amount they need and the excess gets stored as fat. We do need to include carbohydrates in our diet but opting for the whole grain & seeded types are best.

3. EATING LOW FAT FOODS - Low fat foods are highly processed and often have added chemicals and sugars to improve taste. Unnecessary chemicals can play havoc with your digestive system and any excess sugar not used by your body will be stored as fat.

Nourishing your mind and body is essential, especially for women over 40.

Each meal is an opportunity to show up for yourself and practice self care by fueling your body with the nutrients it needs to thrive. 

When you consistently prioritise nourishment, rather than skipping meals or pushing yourself to extreme. Your body will respond with more energy, balance, calmness and wellbeing.

Listen to your hunger cues, eat in sync with your cycle and be gentle with yourself. True wellness comes from nourishment and not restriction.

Instead:

✨Incorporate every meal with colourful fruits and veg, fibre, protein, complex carbohydrates and healthy fats.

✨Try walking for 15-20mins post meals, to balance blood sugar levels.

✨Add daily Breathwork to lower stress levels and to manage a healthy body composition.

✨Move your body on a daily basis to support your body and mind.

✨Top Tips for Sleep✨ Tonight, we move the clo ✨Top Tips for Sleep✨

Tonight, we move the clocks forward by one hour ( Don’t panic!!!) which means less sleep and a sudden shift in our body’s natural rhythm. ( Still…Don’t panic!!!) 

Research shows that daylight saving time can significantly affect hormones, mood, energy levels.

Here are my 5 top tips to ease the transition…

1️⃣ Get Sunlight Early in the Day ☀️
Why? Morning light helps reset your circadian rhythm. Sunlight stops melatonin production and boosts serotonin, making you feel awake and alert. 
Aim for 10–30 minutes of natural light exposure as soon as you wake up. If it’s not sunny that’s ok just get natural light- even when it’s cloudy.

2️⃣ Stick to a Sleep pattern 🛏️
Why? A consistent schedule keeps your internal clock steady. Even if you feel groggy, try waking up and going to bed at the same time daily to help your body adjust faster. Even at the weekends ( party pooper!!) 

3️⃣ Cut Caffeine & Screens Before Bed ☕📵
Why? Caffeine stays in your system for up to 6 hours, making it harder to fall asleep. Blue light from phones and screens blocks melatonin, delaying sleep.
✔ Stop caffeine after 12pm
✔ Avoid screens at least 60 minutes before bed or use blue light filters if you can.

4️⃣ Eat a Protein-Rich Breakfast 🍳
Why? A healthy breakfast stabilises cortisol and blood sugar levels, keeping energy stable throughout the day. Skipping breakfast can make you feel even more sluggish and moody.
✔ Try eggs, Greek yogurt or a protein smoothie.
✔ Avoid heavy carbs and sugars first thing in the morning.

5️⃣ Get Moving in the Morning 🚶‍♂️
Why? Exercise helps regulate cortisol and improve sleep quality at night. It also raises core body temperature, signaling your body that it’s time to be awake.
✔ Go for a short walk or do light stretching.
✔ Avoid intense workouts right before bed, as they can spike cortisol and delay sleep.

A few small changes can help you adjust quickly and feel your best, remember the habits you engrain in the daytime really affect how you sleep at night 💤
